A trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains is something we do several times a year, but I think fall is my favorite time. The air is clear, the sun is warm and the color of the trees is spectacular! Just driving along the parkway is a treat but we have our favorite places to go and see.
Downtown Blowing Rock is charming. Full of shops, dog friendly restaurants and beautiful flowers everywhere you look.
The Linn Cove viaduct is a spectacular feat of engineering the way if floats off the side of the mountain. The views of the mountains are breathtaking, especially in the fall.
Linville Falls is a double waterfall. It is surrounded by wilderness, and the gorge is only accessible by a 2 mile steep hike through it. There are many trails in the park that are easy where the gorge and waterfalls can be seen. The waterfall can be seen close up by several of the trails.
Should you go to Blowing Rock and want to picnic, the gas station in downtown has all the fixins and will make up sandwiches to your specs!
