Living young

After retirement,  a whole new chapter of life begins.  All of the things that I wanted to do while I was working, I now have time for.  Just thinking of the possibilities makes me giddy!  I feel like a girl about to start on a new adventure.

I have always wanted to paint, and so I have been experimenting with sketching and watercolors.  I just might have some talent, but I need lots more practice.  And the good thing is that now I have the time

What is going to keep you young?

Will it be taking a trip?  It doesn’t have to be a long trip.  My husband and I have found that day trips are very satisfying.  Getting out and seeing something new and having lunch at a nice restaurant makes for a very pleasant day and is easy on our budget. Of course  an extended trip includes the fun of the planning!

How about taking up a new hobby such as photography?     There are so many subjects and places that you could consider.

jilbert-ebrahimi-67777One day I was talking to a gentleman that was taking a lot of pictures of a waterfall we were at.  He was using his phone as well as a camera. It turns out that he was a professional photographer! Just goes to show that you don’t need any fancy equipment.

Of course there is more time to read.

I love to read, and have been doing some research on our family tree.  I always have 2-3 novels that I have picked up at the local library.

Having more time to spend with friends.  Long lunches with lots of laughter.  A glass of wine over dinner.  Going for walks, discussing the latest books you enjoyed, or sharing and comparing the ‘woes of aging’.  It is great to spend time with old and new friends.

So start something new.  Be bold and brave.  This is our time!                                                                                                                            donnajean
