As we get older, we need to take control of our bodies. I’m not talking about a diet or mad exercise program. What I am talking about is staying strong so we can do the things we enjoy. If you are older than 50, you know that your body changes. Oh my, does it!!! But we can do some things to stay strong, feel good and feel pretty.
The first thing is having respect for the wonderful machine our bodies are. Blood flowing, muscles moving, bones & tendons holding everything together. And like any machine, it needs maintenance.
I think the right kind of exercise is better than plastic surgery, because the results come from within, and it is available to all of us. And what I propose does not take money or a gym membership. Set up a room with a floor mirror, music if you like, and some space.
- Practice yoga stretches. They will help you with balance, posture & core strength. You can find programs on TV or buy a tape or magazine to show you poses.
- Do 10 minutes of weight exercises. You can use cans if you do not have weights. I do the exercises they taught us in grade school. Touch your toes, move your arms in circles, 10 push-ups on your knees, & sit ups
That brings me to the pretty part. I have never thought of myself as pretty, but now that I am older I realize that accenting my positive features instead of thinking about my flaws is the way to go. So every day I put on make-up. Not alot, but concealer for those broken blood vessels in my checks. Mascara & eye shadow to open up my eyes and camouflage the saggy lids. Powder and lip stain and I am ready.
The other really important thing is how we dress. If you have great legs, you can wear leggings or skinny pants to show them off. Put on a long top to cover the tummy we all get, even if we exercise, and cute shoes. Just because you can’t wear high heels any more you can find shoes that are stylish and comfy. And don’t forget the accessories. Add a scarf for color and pattern. Don’t be afraid of color. It will brighten your face.
So ladies, here’s to being strong & pretty….donnajean
